“They look like they’re ready to kill us!” I shouted into the driving wind.
For sure, the ocean wasn’t playing games with us. and if it was, we were
definitely on the losing side!
I was talking about the waves. They were twenty-foot giants, on every side
and we sailed up the trough of the wave, frightfully fast, and crashed through
its top, sending tons of white spray cascading like a waterfall twenty feet
from the bow to the stern. The ocean drenched us over and over again.
Thankfully we made it through the ten hours of that nightmare (coming home
from Catalina Island in a full gale storm).
Even though it was truly terrifying, it was also unbelievable and the ocean was awesome in its fury. I had never seen anything like it.
One thing you don’t want to do is play games with the ocean. You have to
take it seriously. And I can say the same thing with your life. Any dream
you want to accomplish, you have to mean business!
People tell me all the time how they have no money to invest in
themselves. So how will they learn how to succeed that way? I’ve been
exactly at the same place, with no money, working paycheck to paycheck,
and still managed to save up and invest in my vision and my business.
Can you imagine if I had not taken classes on sailing and got myself into
that awful storm unprepared?
Can you imagine what your life will look like if you DO take your business seriously?What IF you get the right tools and a coach to help you? You may
change your life COMPLETELY!
On the other hand – there is the easy way out too and this will produce
NOTHING significant.
Be brave!Take action and remember that NOT facing your fear will be
even worse later then facing it now. Believe you can, and walk forward…
even if you’re a little scared.

“I’m SO scared right now!” That’s what I was thinking.
I just passed through 3 squalls (that felt like miniature hurricanes).
It brought driving rain over the ocean and a fast wind that about scared
my socks off!
To sum up this crazy adventure, I just kayaked the two hours out to
“Chinaman’s Hat” (that cool island out there).

I could hardly see with all the rain and cold wind in my face.
“Ow!” I said, as I nicked my hand trying to open the hatch door.
The sailboat was on remote control now and I was taking cover!
The hatches were all firmly closed and Buttercup (my cute golden
dog) was snuggled up all warm on the front v-birth bed. I
thought about how she was all nice and warm in the midst of the
storm.
“Wow, must be nice!“, I thought. I’m not sure If I was jealous
or just happy for her as I was still enjoying the fight against the storm.
After a few minutes recovering, I suddenly decided to finally brave
the elements head on and go out to the bow of the boat and take
the sail down.
Climbing up out of the protection of the cockpit and onto the
cabin top, the full fury of the storm hit me.
Rain was everywhere, and the wind was gusting so hard you could
hear it go by!
Every second counted. If I didn’t get it done soon I would be
completely drenched. So quickly, I dropped the big sail and put up
the smaller one. Instantly, I could feel the boat begin to “relax”.
Sound crazy? Yeah, I agree. It was!And that’s how life is
sometimes. It’s just part of it all. However, excepting it is another
thing.
In 2012, I decided I was NOT going to accept working for an
employer any more. I was going to work a little EVERY DAY to get free and be able to work for myself. And that’s what I did
– and so can you!

Some of the most beautiful things in life are indescribable
really.
But do I need to tell you of the work I had to put in just
to get out to sea to enjoy that? Or the years of work to
gain the experience to feel comfortable at sea and not fearful
of storms…
So you can see that anything that can become a beautiful
experience takes work and developing of skill. The free things
God gives us, make life so wonderful, but it must be nurtured.
The garden doesn’t stay beautiful without work.
And so it is with internet marketing. Surely you can see that
the “free things” we are offered on the internet are not anything
like the “free things” God gives us?
It is only with hopes of finding a new client are these “free things”
given. The world is a strange place with manipulation everywhere you turn.
But not on the sea. The sea will be brutally honest with you.
When the sea tests you, you won’t get a chance to manipulate
your way out. Its only pure skill and the ability to not “freak out”
in the midst of pure stress, that will see you through!
And in that respect, internet marketing is the same. You won’t get
anywhere honestly if you think that you’re going to find the
“done for you” business where you don’t have to actually learn
anything or develop some real skills.
You can obviously see what I’m getting at!
So here’s your chance to get started and learn the real skills
that will change things for you. It will be a new day, one where
you don’t have to be reliant on “luck” or “finding the perfect
business” (which doesn’t exist by the way).
And understand that on top of this I do actually care about your

Hi! I hope you had a very happy Christmas! Today was lovely
here in Pasadena. There was no snow (usually there isn’t here in southern
California) and even though there’s nothing quite like a snowy Christmas,
our family was happy all the same.

. Hi Albie here. Whoever thought you could have so much fun with miniature boats! Well, if you don’t have a real life sized one – this is the next best thing. Especially when you’re a kid and don’t have any other choice.

When I was a kid, it was either drawing boats or making miniature ones (or building model ones). I couldn’t get enough of any of the three. In fact I put them all together and created a “pirate game”. I drew the map and game board, and built the ships that were in the game. Then I wrote each of the adventures on the cards. We had a lot of fun and would play for hours!

Later, when I grew up, I built a miniature sailboat from a wooden frame that I created with wooden beams that I bent and shaped. I created it to be watertight and eventually sailed it across lakes and even into the ocean! It survived huge beach waves and getting flipped upside down by huge “monster” waves along the shore. It was built to be able to flip right side up – just like a real sailboat and it did! I was so proud.
I even created a video adventure with miniature sailboats sailing with the wind. You can see it here. I mean, there’s excitement when a miniature boat gets a breeze across its beam, catches speed and begins to take off!

It took me over a year to build that boat in my spare time and I sure learned a lot about real boats in the process. I literally had no idea that you could take new wood and soak it in really hot water for half an hour and that it would then be pliable to bend along a frame. Later when the wood dried, it would hold its shape!
.
The other thing I learned was how amazing math was. I have always been bad in math and hated it since I was a kid (I had an abusive teacher when I was in elementary school who caused me to fear and hate it). What I wish I had known as a kid is that boats are built completely on math and I think it would be the most excellent way of teaching math to a child (or anyone for that matter). I mean, for instance, the width and length of the boat will give it stability
and along with the weight of the ballast, will help it maintain its balance. The mast will stand if it’s the right size with correct proportions and will hold the sails full of wind – only if there is enough width and weight in the boats makeup. Symmetry is especially important too and math is everywhere: for example: how tall the mast is, compared to how long the boat length is and how much ballast in the hold. And there are a million other numbers you have to consider to
make a beautifully working boat! You can see some beautiful examples of miniature boats in my new video coming out soon.

I personally love these miniature tall ships and how much detail is given to them – almost like the real thing!

In fact I spent a couple years volunteering on a couple real tall ships in San Pedro California to help inner city kids. We would take groups of kids sailing and teach them life skills at the same time. We would sail them out to Catalina Island and other places. It was actually very effective (which is kind of hard to explain unless you actually try it yourself). The thing is that being on a boat for a weekend, actually creates a natural environment to work together
as a team and it can be life changing on occasions for kids and adults.

So, anyway, I learned a lot about real ships by being part of the crew for two years on a “Tall Ship” with masts and sails like the old Clipper ships and this helped me understand ships much better. It also helped me realize the difference between what a good miniature ship was and a bad one.
.
I could tell almost instantly if the miniature ship was built according to real proportions of a real ship and if the lines and spars were correct. Finally, if you want to give your child a little adventure, you can create a real live working miniature boat just with a soda bottle, some rocks, a stick from a tree, a knife or scissors, a piece of paper and a rubber band. I learned this on my own from a lot of trial and error and hope you enjoy it like I did!

Here’s how you do it:
First off, you cut a little hole into a soda bottle at the back of it (which will now be the top deck of your boat).
Make sure the cap is closed on your soda bottle. You can use any size soda bottle you want, you just will need a bigger stick and rocks based on what size it is.
Then cut a tiny little hole in the center of the bottle (still on the “top deck”). Place a few rocks into the first hole you cut out.
Then place the stick through the center hole and take a few rocks and “rubber band” them to the bottom of the stick.
You want just enough rocks to ballast the boat – not to sink it.
Now take the white paper and cut it in half. Put two small holes with the scissors unto the paper (one at the top and one at the bottom).
Then place the stick end or “mast” top through the two holes and you have yourself a sail!
Just make sure the rocks are below the mast and are “balanced” near the mast. You don’t want the rocks to imbalance the boat.
If the rocks are placed improperly, the boat will “list” on its side instead of float upright with the mast pointing directly up towards the sky.

Now launch the boat into a body of water, such as a lake. If you want to get it back, then simply tie fishing line to the back of it and pull it back gently towards you when you want it back.

If there is any wind the boat will move through the water. If there is too much wind, the boat will list and then possibly sink. You just want enough wind to push the boat gently through the water!

I didn’t know it at the time but when I found Janette, she became to me like my best friend and lover at the same time. It’s really hard to just “find” someone who is a best friend. I mean, I’ve had four best friends in my life. And each of them was not easy to find nor did I find ANY of them “searching” for them. They all came into my life completely
“by accident” when I was least expecting it.
. . God’s love is there for you and I always. And its this love that has walked hand in hand with Janette and I through the years. Its been the constant, the bottom denominator, and the reason we’ve come through all the bad times and forgiven each other. It’s this love that has been the light that has illuminated our darkness. .
This is the love that you don’t have to be “lucky” to find or be in the right place at the right time. And I’ve found that if you find “the one” that it will eventually turn sour without the author of love in the middle of it. .

Hi Albie here! Right now, I’m writing this at the dock while waiting to go aboard the Catalina Express ship. This is a really fast catamaran shaped vessel that flies through the water propelled by two or three huge engines. . White water shoots across the water, shot out by the massive engines as the Catalina Express flies across the sea toward Avalon. This is the main town on Catalina that is still just as quaint as ever, with its lack of carsand lack of overpopulation. . On our anniversary, over twenty years ago, my wife Janette and I stayed at a really cool pink “Victorian era” like hotel called Hotel St. Lauren. I’m looking over at it right now and remembering how much fun we had there! . My daughter and I then enjoyed renting a couple of bikes and riding fast along the main road along the ocean. It was fun to feel the ocean breeze on our faces, the pretty waves crashing along the beach as we rode swiftly past shore line cliffs and…

Hi! This is Albie. I wanted to share with you the love of sailing
and some of my adventures!

One of my first sunset pictures of Malibu at sea from when I was still new to sailing.
Tall Ships have always captivated me. That’s why for a couple years
I volunteered on the Tall Ships Irving and Exy Johnson.
The ocean has fascinated me since I was young. Drawing tall ships in elementary school was encouraged further after my parents took me to visit the HMS “Victory” in Plymouth, England and the “Cutty Sark” in Greenwich London. From an early age, I learned to love to travel and love the ocean. Today I still love to draw sailboats and tall ships.
Later, After reading a book about a family that sailed across the Atlantic, my curiosity about sailing was fanned into flame. One of the things that captivated my attention was the initial planning the father made for the trip at his desk with the sea maps, charts and navigational tools in front of him. I could see myself doing that and couldn’t wait to start! The other thing that challenged me was the actual trip and the challenge of the sea.

Having been out at sea for over 400 days (not in a row) at this time, I have to confront my earlier thoughts on the ocean and say that sometimes the ocean will do more than just challenge you. Sometimes it will drive you to the point of sheer panic and it’s all you can do to stay focused on creating a solution to a desperate situation (when you know you may not have enough time to succeed). Still, to actually believe you will fail, will cause you to panic. So you have to think fast and come up with something you think may actually work!

I don’t mean to scare you or make you feel frightened of the ocean. The truth is that the more experience you have, the more control you will have. There is never full control and in fact, the ocean is stronger than anyone can imagine. Of course everyone believes this. However, after reading “Force Ten” and then having been in thirty five small craft advisories, gales and storms at sea; the truth suddenly hit me between the eyes. From that day, I slowed down and realized I didn’t need to challenge the ocean anymore.

It helps to have a healthy respect of the sea.
This will keep you from some of the worst trouble you’ll ever get yourself into!

Since I didn’t have my own boat, I made my own!
.
My model boat took a year to build it in my spare time. I made it with a lot of study of how to build my own boats (yet I still built it without any boat plans).
.
I even learned how to bend the wood around the frame by soaking the wood in really hot water for half an hour and then attaching the wooden beams to the framework. By the time it had dried, the wood was pliable and bent how you needed it to go.
.
It sailed very well and it was set to sail automatically on a beam reach (at 90 degree angle to the wind). I took it out across lakes, large bays and even out on the ocean!
.
It could be flipped by a wave upside down and right itself up again!
But if it flipped two or three times then it would sink (just like a real sailboat)!
.
Today it sits in my bedroom window and doesn’t sail all that much. But it taught me a great deal about boats and how much symmetry and math go into making one!
.
After building the boat, it was time to go to the next step.
Soon I was taking sailing lessons and joining others cruises out to Catalina Island!

So I untied the bow and stern lines and pushed the my 22 foot Columbia through the water out into the first small channel.
.
.
I then jumped aboard and held the boom and the strong wind caught the sail at a 90° angle and pulled us swiftly towards the main waterway.
.
On the last third of the main channel is where all the little boats liked to practice and so I would always have to dodge these little boats here and there on my way out to the ocean.
.
Occasionally when sailing in bad weather, I would get to the seawall (the entrance to the ocean) and see 10 foot waves or higher looming in the distance and my heart would sink with fear,watching the whitecaps breaking on the tops. Often I would challenge these waves for as long as I could but on a gorgeous day like today, I would enthusiastically set out past the sea wall and head out into the waves without any
fear.

I could see all kinds of beautiful cloud formations at sea and if the sky was clear then I could also see the misty green color of Catalina island out on the far horizon. I would sail on for hours as the boat crashed gently through the water (up and down and over the waves). All the time the wind was blowing across my face; until at last the sun started to go down.
.

After a beautiful sunset, and a few miles out, only a remnant of a red light amidst a lot of darkness, glowed in the western sky. The ocean became very dark and everything became very eerie and a “wee bit scary” (lol). Because of the ever present darkness and gloom, I would turn on my navigation lights and one of the lights down inside the cabin. Its trickle of light into the cockpit, amidst a very dark world of sea and sky, would begin
to cheer me up as I headed back home. .
Then I would go down inside the cabin for a few minutes and get some hot water from the thermos and pour it into a cup of hot chocolate. Stirring this around with a spoon, I would “waddle” (in an attempt on walking across a moving deck), to bring it back outside to the cockpit and sit down and drink a nice warm cup. Then I would sip it and steer the boat by the stars ever towards the lights of the harbor.

Sometimes it would be hard to spot the flickering green or red harbor lightsbut with a pair of binoculars and a lot of patience, the lights would eventually show up.
.
On other occasions, dolphins would visit us and jump out of the water near the boat! One time a couple dolphins were swimming in front of the boat just trying to tease me. It’s quite obvious they could swim much faster than the boat but they just seemed to glide along with such speed under the water (and with such ease and almost effortlessness) that it was amazing.
.
Finally, the green flashing harbor lights would show up right in front of the boat and I would steer the boat between the green and the red lights into the harbor.
.
As I turned eastward down the channel I would open up the sails all the way on what’s called a “run”. This would drive the boat with the wind directly behind the boat. For the first time today, the wind was at my back!
.

Either way I usually always made it back without any trouble, except for a couple times when I got caught out in really big storms at sea. One time I had to call the Harbor Master with an SOS. And they came and helped me get home after my mast had come crashing down. Thankfully out of years sailing and over 400 days at sea, that only happened once. .

Hi Albie here! Having children is one thing but having them grow up and leave you is quite another (natural but still hard to deal with). . After years and years of taking care of them, loving on them, patching up there bruises, helping them with their homework, eating dinner together, talking in the car, laughing, night-time stories and a host of other things, my wife and I found that they were almost like our best friends. Sure, we had troubles too like anyone but the positives outweighed the negatives 10-1. . But the true test is when they leave home. It’s like the bird leaving the nest and flying into the wild and the only way you find out if they really love you is when they come back on their own. . I guess that’s what I’m feeling right now. I miss my kids a lot and I that’s why when my daughter called me and wanted to pay for a special cruise to go out to Catalina island together for my birthday, it really warmed my heart. . My daughter is not as fond of sailing as I am (although she doesn’t mind it) and so a nice compromise was to take a very fast ferry to Catalina instead. And this worked great for us all as my wife gets really seasick. . So there I was, at the back of the Catalina express, watching the boat speed along while the water at the back of the boat shot out from the propellers into the sea like rocket fire. It was unbelievable.

. . Then half way over, the suns reflections on the water glittered everywhere as we zoomed over the water at top speed. I took some pictures when we were just a few miles away from the main town called Avalon. It was interesting to use my photo lenses and zoom up on the far-away cliffs and crags, coves and inlets of the Island. The power of the lenses was intense and the images were absolutely amazing as I could see the island, rocks and water zoomed in so close. . Being on the island was really lovely too, with my lovely wife Janette, our cute golden dog and my sweet daughter Juliette. . We especially had fun renting some bikes and cruising along the shoreline with my daughter. The combination of being on the path beside the ocean waves and zooming by (on a fast clip) on our bikes with my daughter was like magic! I don’t know any other way to describe it. We had SO much fun! 🙂 . Maybe you can relate to this story in someway? If so I would definitely love to hear back from you about your experiences too.

Hi Albie here! I was out at sea one night. The ocean was calm. The moon was shining brightly on the waves, leaving a white glistening trail over the horizon.

The wind was blowing softly in the sails moving the boat along at a nice clip. The breeze was blowing across my face as I looked out over the dark water, watching the boat speed along further out to sea. I remember feeling this peace all around me. An intense happiness to just be out on my own on this dark ocean and with the comfort of knowing that from where I sat, all was right with the world.
To inspire you that putting in the time eventually pays off. For example, if you weed a garden, it may not be perfect but its a lot better now then it was half an hour ago (lol!). And with a little more time, it will be something you look forward to looking out of your window to look at!
